Pocket sewing tutorial to make with recycled fabric sections
Materials and tools needed:
· 3 pieces of recycled fabric
· Fabric for lining
· Zip
· Sheet of paper
· Ruler and tape measure
· Scissors
· Pins
· Sewing machine
Production:
1. Take a rectangle or square bit of paper. The top side of the paper should match the length of the zip. Then decide on the pocket dimensions while leaving an additional 1 cm at the top and bottom. At the end of this step, cut the paper to the desired size.
2. Using a ruler and pencil, draw two lines through the piece of paper to show a patchwork pattern.
3. Cut out the figurines made from the piece of paper using scissors and number each one of them to mark their location.
4. Place each of the small patchwork templates over the pieces of fabric and cut according to the outlines.
5. Sew two pieces of fabric together and leave the back fold open.
6. Sew the third piece of fabric together and leave the back fold open again. Repeat steps 3-6 to make the other side of the pocket.
7. Place your quilt on top of the lining and cut along the outlines twice.
8. Place the zip and the patchwork right sides together. Put a piece of lining over the zip, the right side facing down, and the raw edges aligned. Pin and sew the zip on the upper side.
9. Unfold the two sides of the pocket so that the face of the patchwork and the zip are right side up and the lining is underneath. Stitch all around the seam allowance and close the zip.
10. Repeat steps 8-9 with the rest of the fabric scraps. Open the zip.
11. Pin the lining pieces and the fabric pieces right sides together. Then, stitch all time around, giving a small opening at the bottom of the lining.
12. From the small opening, turn the pouch inside out to reveal the place.
13. Sew the opening on the margin and insert the lining inside.
Recycled sewing tutorial – make a small fabric tote basket
Materials and tools needed:
· recycled fabric
· Additional fabric of your choice
· Iron-on
· Sewing machine
· Pins
Production:
1. Begin by choosing the area of your basket. In the specific case – 15, 20, and 30 cm, without forgetting that the cups obtained at the end would be 2.5-5 cm smaller because of the seam allowances left on the sides.
2. Cut two squares of fabric of the same size.
3. Cut two squares of the iron-on patch that are 1-1.5 cm shorter than the fabric squares.
4. Line up the iron-on patch against the back of the fabric square using an iron.
5. Pin the squares of fabric now with iron-on adhesive right sides together.
6. Leaving a border of about half a centimeter, sew the sides of the two squares, leaving a small hole so that you can then turn the basket over. At the beginning and the end, sew in reverse stitch.
7. Turn the fabric over through the hole left. Handle the fabric so that it is flattened and all the corners are well-drawn—iron on it.
8. Iron the corners of the hole you left to line up with the sides and topstitch a border about 3.4mm.
9. To form each corner, fold the corner in half and sew a line perpendicular to the edge, thus creating an angle of 45º C.
10. Sew in reverse stitch at the beginning and the end. Repeat for all corners.
The idea of string to make out of fabric scraps for your decorative creations
Materials needed:
· Tapes of material in various designs and colors
· A spool large enough to wrap the cord around
· Finger moisturizer for simplicity (optional)
Production:
1. Start by collecting scraps of fabric, which cut or tear in various lengths.
2. Take a long strip and a short strip and tie them together at the end.
3. Slide the knot under something heavy enough so that it is fixed.
4. Twist each strand on itself, winding to the right.
5. Then, let the two strands twist around each other. Work in small sections.
6. Follow the instructions above until the short strip is ultimately used. To attach a new strip, leave 2 cm from the previous strip and wrap the new strip around. Make sure that the two bands never end in the same place to have a strong junction point.
7. At the end, finish with another knot.
8. Wrap the string around a spool until ready to use.
What to do with the recycled fabric cord – create an original flower pot
Materials needed:
· Cord made from recycled fabric strips
· Brown threads or another color
· Needle
Production:
1. Start by winding your cord in recycled fabric strips on itself, working on a flat surface.
2. Then, secure the first rows together with a wire that runs from the inside to the outer layers of the roll. Wind the thread around each row and sew in a circular motion.
3. To start working towards the top of your pot, place the next row on top rather than next to the previous row.
4. Proceed in this way till you attain the wanted height. At this point, tie the end of the thread to the string a few times.
